George S. Tolley, III

George S. Tolley III is licensed to practice law in Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and the District of Columbia and has been specially admitted in other jurisdictions across the country. George maintains a prestigious “A/V” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, publisher of the definitive directory of America’s leading lawyers. George has been honored in listings such as Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and other publications in Maryland over the past five years.

George is a recognized leader of the Maryland trial bar, and he is invited to serve as moderator and featured guest speaker at continuing legal education seminars for trial lawyers. George is a Past President of the Maryland Association for Justice having served as President for the 2012-13 term. In past years, George has been Chair of the Association’s Medical Negligence Section as well as the Legislative, Education, Fundraising and Amicus Committees. In addition, George is a member of the American Association for Justice and many specialty and regional bar associations. George serves on the Maryland State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pattern Jury Instructions and also the MSBA’s Committee for Reform of the Law.

George has considerable experience in trial and appellate courts, having recovered millions of dollars in compensation for his clients. Along with his partners, Henry E. Dugan, Jr. and Bruce J. Babij, George was acknowledged as Trial Lawyer of the Year for 2009 by the Maryland Association for Justice for his representation of a child who suffered brain injuries at birth as a result of obstetrical negligence. In June of 2012, George and his partner, Bruce Babij, obtained a verdict in excess of $20,881,000 for a client who had suffered a traumatic birth injury as a consequence of medical negligence, believed to be the largest medical negligence verdict ever in Maryland.

A math major from Williams College (B.A., 1988), George received his law degree from the New York University School of Law (J.D., 1991). He is intrigued by puzzles of all kinds and annually participates in a variety of crossword and puzzle competitions. George, his wife – a dog trainer – and their four sons reside in the Annapolis area.
