She is currently on the Board of Governors for the Maryland Association for Justice (formerly the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association) and serves as the Co-Chair of the Nursing Home Section and on the editorial staff for the Trial Reporter.

Ellen has both litigated against and defended health care providers and hospitals in medical negligence cases, providing her with a unique perspective on the medical and legal issues that are at the foundation of medical malpractice litigation. Ellen has personally litigated medical negligence cases involving such complex medical issues as maternal hypertensive disorders during pregnancy; placental abruption; premature labor and delivery; neonatal hypoxic brain injury; neonatal encephalopathy; vaginal hysterectomy; anesthesia accidents; cancer misdiagnosis and delay in diagnosis and treatment; injuries related to undiagnosed or misdiagnosed sepsis and infection; anaphylaxis; pulmonary embolism; delay in diagnosis and treatment of stroke and other cerebral accidents; code response; nursing home negligence; wound and fall prevention; and gastric surgery injuries.

Ellen received her undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Richmond in 1991, and her Juris Doctor from Catholic University in 1996. During law school, Ellen was recognized for her academic achievements as a Note and Comment Editor of the Law Review; a Vice Chancellor of the Moot Court, and as a clerk at the Administrative Offices of the United States Courts.

Ellen is an active member of the Maryland Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, American Trial Lawyers, Women’s Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. She has been recognized by the United States District Court for the District of Maryland for her pro bono representation of the underprivileged.

Ellen has recently authored “Do Lawsuits Make Medical Care Safer?” published in the Spring 2014 issue of the Trial Reporter (click here to view a pdf of this article).

As a mother of a child with severe food allergies, Ellen is particularly empathetic to the challenges faced by the families of infants and children who have suffered significant illnesses and injuries. Ellen has devoted herself to educating others in the recognition of anaphylactic reactions in children with food allergies, the importance of prompt treatment with epinephrine, and the precautions that can be taken to prevent allergy related injuries.

Ellen resides in Ellicott City, Maryland with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys tennis and chasing her girls from the swimming pool to the soccer field.
